History of Horseshoe Bend National Military Park
The Battle of Horseshoe Bend, fought on March 27, 1814, marked the conclusion of the Creek War. Here, General Andrew Jackson led his forces, including allied Cherokee and Lower Creek warriors, against the Red Stick Creeks, who sought to preserve their traditional way of life. The battle resulted in the defeat of the Red Sticks and led to the Treaty of Fort Jackson, which handed millions of acres of Creek land to the United States.
Walking through the park, you’ll find yourself immersed in this powerful history. The Visitor Center features exhibits and artifacts that bring the story of the Creek War to life, highlighting the experiences of both the Red Stick warriors and the U.S. forces.
